INTRODUCTORY PATHWAY

Stage 2 – General Coaching

The introductory coaching course covers the basic concepts of coaching in an equestrian environment, essential to the provision of minimum standards of horse and participant welfare and safety.  

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • 18 years of age
  • Completed Introductory Riding and Horse Management
  • Current EA member
  • First aid certificate
  • WWCC
  • EA Community Coaching Essential Skills Certificate

  • Anyone looking to work with horses
  • Anyone who is aspiring to be a coach
  • Anyone wishing to qualify as an Introductory Coach

UNITS

ORIENTATION TO EA EDUCATION PATHWAYS

The orientation is estimated to take 4 hours to complete and can be viewed online.

4 hours.

UNIT 1 : COACHING SAFETY

Unit 1 is estimated to take 1 day and covers risk management, ethics, OHS and reporting procedures.

UNIT 2 : COACHING PRINCIPLES

Unit 2 is estimated to take 10 – 15 hours for completion, and covers coaching styles, lesson planning, conflict resolution and holistic coaching strategies.

10-15 hours.

UNIT 3 : EQUESTRIAN SPECIFIC COACHING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

Unit 3 is estimated to take 10 – 15 hours for completion, and covers the basic requirements for assessing a horse and a beginner participant, delivery of basic riding skills, and essential skills on the flat.

10-15 hours.

ASSESSMENTS

You will be required to undertake a 1hour written theory paper and approximately 6 hours of practical demonstrations.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

To begin your Introductory Coaching, you will first need to have successfully completed and received certificates for your Introductory Riding and Horse Management. Once you have, you can purchase your books from Equestrian Australia using the Coaching Resource Order Form. Once payment is completed, you will receive the links to your books via email.
